On September 30, 2009, the Act to
establish an early childhood development fund was passed,
resulting de facto in the creation of the Société de
gestion du fonds pour le développement des jeunes enfants.
A non-profit legal entity, this corporation operating under the
name Avenir d'enfants is the result of a partnership between the
Quebec Government and the Lucie
and André Chagnon Foundation.
Avenir d'enfants will devote $400 million over a 10-year period
to implement activities, projects and initiatives that will
contribute to the development of children aged five and under,
living in poverty. According to article 11 of its Act of
Incorporation, Avenir d'enfants is subject to the provisions of the
Auditor General
Actof Quebec, which stipulates that the latter can proceed with
the auditing of its books.
