Learning from everyone and encouraging collective knowledge construction are among the values that Avenir d'enfants fosters with regard to the global development of children aged five and under living in poverty.

Avenir d'enfants aims to:

  • facilitate the sharing of knowledge between practitioners and communities mobilized around young children and their families;
  • respond to needs expressed by workers and community organizations working with children for knowledge and know-how about early childhood development;
  • satisfy, by means of communities, parents' desire to better understand their children's development and to stimulate them.

The acquisition and transfer of early childhood development knowledge reinforces the community mobilization strategy put forth by Avenir d'enfants.

Our knowledge-sharing objective is twofold:

Projects submitted to Avenir d'enfants

Three categories of knowledge projects can receive support from Avenir d'enfants.

Knowledge and new practice development projects

Study of a particular situation

Project that responds to needs catalogued by communities or that emerged from a large number of local groups' action plans, focusing on the study and analysis of a situation specific to early childhood, with the aim of understanding determining factors and defining winning strategies to remedy the situation. Note that a specific call for tenders issued by Avenir d'enfants precedes support for this type of project.

Development of tools and practices

The development or adaptation of a tool, program or practice that supports the overall development of children aged five and under and high-quality education practices. The project aims to support the production of content not currently accessible or adapted to the entire Quebec population. The project can unfold in two stages: content creation, and subsequent experimentation (pilot project).

Admissible sponsors:

  • the scientific community (researchers, research groups and centres of expertise);
  • organizations from the following networks:
    • daycare services,
    • teaching,
    • community,
    • health and social services, recognized as university institutes or university-affiliated centres.

Implementation of pilot projects

Pilot project execution consists of implementing a planned activity to demonstrate an idea's feasibility and to determine its final form. A pilot project's scope can be considerably broadened once a project is estimated to have produced the desired results. This type of project is carried out on a small scale to assess implementation conditions and the expected short-term impact on the studied situation. The project trial run must include a structured assessment process led by groups or organizations with research and assessment expertise.

Admissible sponsors:

  • organizations from the community daycare or teaching network;
  • institutions from the health and social services network recognized as university institutes or university-affiliated centres;
  • municipal organizations.

Knowledge dissemination and appropriation projects

Diffusion projects interest a large pool of stakeholders and aim for the diffusion and appropriation of experience-based learning and knowledge that has built on a solid, evaluated foundation and has yielded the desired impact. Moreover, these projects should include an implementation process that can be adapted to the variety of contexts in which they will be deployed.

Admissible sponsors:

  • organizations from the following networks:
    • daycare services,
    • teaching,
    • community;
  • institutions from the health and social services network;
  • organizations with expertise in knowledge transfer.
If you have a knowledge acquisition and transfer project that corresponds to one of these types of projects and meets our selection criteria, write to us to learn more about how to obtain Avenir d'enfants support and formulate your request.
